WHEN TO TEST

  • If your pet has been exposed or is at-risk

  • If your pet exhibits any of these common symptoms:
  1. Sneezing: Frequent and persistent sneezing is a hallmark sign of FHV-1.
  2. Nasal Discharge: Cats with FHV-1 often have clear to mucous-like nasal discharge.
  3. Conjunctivitis: Inflammation of the eye's mucous membranes (conjunctivitis) can lead to redness, squinting, and discharge from the eyes.
  4. Eye Ulcers: FHV-1 can cause corneal ulcers or eye lesions, which may appear as cloudy spots on the eye's surface.
  5. Coughing: Some cats with FHV-1 may develop a mild cough.
  6. Fever: An elevated body temperature is a common sign of infection.
  7. Lethargy: Infected cats may appear tired and have a reduced interest in play or activity.
  8. Loss of Appetite: Cats with FHV-1 may experience a decreased appetite.
  9. Drooling: In severe cases, cats may drool due to mouth ulcers.
