• Persistent or Severe Respiratory Symptoms: Cats with persistent or severe respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, congestion, or labored breathing may benefit from a PCR panel to identify the specific pathogens causing the infection.
• Chronic or Recurrent Respiratory Infections: Cats that experience chronic or recurrent respiratory infections, especially in multi-cat households or shelter environments, may require diagnostic testing to pinpoint the underlying causes.

PCR tests are exceptional because they detect very small amounts of genetic material from pathogens or abnormal cells, so a small sample is all that is needed to complete a lab test. A testing machine measures the amount of genetic material in the sample to determine how much of the pathogen or abnormal cell is present.  PCR tests are very accurate and sensitive for diagnosing diseases or finding genetic changes that can cause disease.
