Collection: Itchy Skin & Hair Loss: Is It Ringworm?
My pet is scratching or losing hair. Could it be ringworm?
Hair loss, scaling, crusting, and circular skin lesions can be caused by ringworm, but allergies, parasites, bacterial or yeast infections, and other skin conditions can look similar. The test currently available in this collection is specifically for ringworm (dermatophyte fungi) — it is not an allergy test.
When the Ringworm PCR Test may fit
Consider this test when your dog or cat has unexplained patches of hair loss, scaly or crusty skin, circular lesions, or known exposure to an animal with suspected ringworm.
The Kedi process
Choose the Ringworm PCR Test → collect the recommended hair, skin, or swab material at home → send it to Kedi → veterinary laboratory PCR testing → receive results → share them with your veterinarian and decide what comes next.
Because ringworm can spread to people and other pets, reduce close contact with suspicious lesions and follow veterinary guidance on isolation and environmental cleaning while results are pending.
If your pet has severe skin pain, rapidly spreading lesions, significant swelling, fever, marked lethargy, or other signs of serious illness, seek veterinary care promptly.
A negative ringworm result does not rule out other causes of itching or hair loss. Your veterinarian may recommend examination, skin cytology, parasite testing, culture, allergy evaluation, or other diagnostics depending on the symptoms.
